GEYSER BURST? WHAT TO DO BEFORE THE PLUMBER ARRIVES

A burst geyser is one of those stressful life moments you don’t always see coming. It can be more manageable if you know what to do.

Here are some quick actions to ensure safety and limit damage while you’re waiting for the plumber to arrive.

Turn Off Water Supply

Turn off the water supply immediately. The water meter is typically located on an external wall or near an outside tap. Switching off your home’s water supply helps minimise flooding.

Switch Off Power

Once the water supply is switched off, turn off the geyser power. On your electrical board, look for the geyser labelled switch and turn it off. This helps the geyser cool down, making it easy for plumbing inspection.

Run Hot Water Taps

After the water and electricity have been turned off, we recommend opening all the hot water taps. Draining this water protects your geyser from pressure build-up and minimises further damage.

Protect Your Belongings

Protect your home while you wait:

  • Move furniture, electronics, and other items away from the leak.
  • Mop up as much water as possible, especially on wooden floors.
  • Use buckets to collect dripping water (use it in the garden later).
